Title: "The Rut" (Whitetail Buck Complete!)

"The Rut"
Only about an hour left to go! Eyes are going to be burned in and background tweaked a bit.
So excited!
Worked some more on this late last night. It's really coming along beautifully. I am very happy with him so far.
Today, we'll be going through and throwing out a lot of things in the basement, Oh joy. I can hardly contain myself from being too excited. :/
One of my shops is back online, the other will be back up today (or tonight) sometime.
Speaking of tonight, this is my favorite night for TV--Lost (8pm), UFO Hunters (9pm), Ghost Hunters (10pm). I especially Love LOST and have watched it from the very first episode!
If you are a LOST fan and are on Twitter, join in the LOST discussion during and after the show by typing #lost in your post about LOST. I use Tweet Deck and type in a search for #lost (in a new column), then I can follow the whole discussion and any @replies at the same time without having to change windows or tabs. :) Click here to follow me on Twitter .
All for now, hope to see you all tonight on Twitter.
I've been reworking the face and neck as I go. The eyes in the first sketch were too big and need to be redone. It was late as I was working on them and as you can see, they still need a bit more work before I begin to burn those areas.
My shops are being taken out of vacation mode, hopefully by the end of tonight.
I've done just a little bit more since the last time. Deepened the foreground, added a few more trees (they will have more detail burned in tonight). I'm closer to burning the buck! :)
I wish you all a very Happy Easter and Passover weekend!
One more thing to note: My shops will be open again by Monday. :)
The background has been lightly sketched in and I've begun burning it in. This is a relatively slow process. I burn at a pretty low setting and go over areas until they are the shade I want.
The woodburning unit I am using is a dual pen Nibsburner (Blue Ribbon), and a shading tip.
All for now, it's a beautiful sunny day and 38 degrees! I'm continuing on with spring cleaning and will be back to work burning tonight.
Have a great day!
Here is what will soon be my latest burn!
I sketched this buck out last night and will begin burning it this evening, starting with the background, which will not be sketched out first. This beautiful wood oval is 5.5" x 7" so it is a relatively small piece. This is a gift for my daughter's boyfriend's parents. :)
Why it's been so quiet here lately is because this past week I started spring cleaning and have been painting my living/dining room. Not anything spectacular at all--just white. :( (That's one problem with renting) It has really affected my hands, wrists, and arms a lot. Thankfully, wearing my braces at night helps ease some of the pain and swelling.
On the slate for today is more of the same. I know the day just started, but I am already looking forward to this evening when I can relax and burn this piece. :)
Have a great day!
Do you ever feel the need to just pick up your paints and brushes and paint something, anything, just for you? I do. I need to let myself go and paint without boundries and time constraints. It may seem selfish, but I find it to be comforting. Also, as I paint away, it brings inspiration for other projects in the future, which I note in my art journal. One of my personal projects has been to paint my dining room table. It needed to be refinished badly or junked so I decided to paint it--it is, after all, a blank canvas. :) I work on it off and on since there is no real hurry to get it done. So, because there is another snowstorm creeping up on us (it should hit tomorrow), I decided to dedicate tomorrow to working some more on it.
I worked a bit on it late last night till 2:30 a.m. and had a great time! I'm tempted to haul my airbrushing equipment upstairs from my shop to do some detailing. I'm still undecided on that as my compressor is very loud.
Today is the first day of 2009!
Have any of you gone out on the town last night? I haven't been out on New Year's Eve in years! My daughter and I were home watching movies and playing her Gamecube. It was nice and quiet.
I've been giving some thought as to what my new year resolution(s) could be. I've got some down on paper, but more are entering my mind as the day wears on and I will add them to the list as well. Some are way more important than others (of course). What I have been doing is separating all into two lists--one for my art and one for my personal life. Both are equally important and fit together.
Other than that, today I've been doing laundry (fun, eh?), listening to old movies, cleaning house, and the entire time-fighting the most horrible headache I've had in a long time. It feels like a migraine, although I think it has more to do with when I fell in the road yesterday morning. Came so close to hitting my head on the pavement. I was very lucky to not get knocked out and run over. The pavement looked wet, instead it was ice. Anyway, I strained to keep my head from hitting the road and in the process pulled some muscles in my neck. The headache I have right now starts at the muscles in the back of my neck and travels to my temples and forehead. Fun day.
The plaque, entitled "Journey's End", on the left is finally finished and has been listed in my Artfire studio. You can see the plaque better by clicking on the picture and also some closeups.
Have a great day!
Here is the board as it is now after about 6 more hours of burning.
The castle is nearly complete, the moon is pretty much finished, and I added some arrow-head leaves in the background of the flowers (which I may remove. since they are very hard to see and the addition of them just makes it look too cluttered (?).
In this photo of the board, you can see that I had loosely sketched a couple trees in place on the left. Late last night, after this photo was taken, I erased them and sketched a different one.
It's funny really, no matter what I am working on, it can (and usually does) look a lot different than what I had originally started out to do.
I'm off now to do laundry, ironing, make marshmallows, and clean the house. It is Monday after all. Will be burning some more later today.
Have a wonderful day everyone!
If you'd like to see a close-up of the flowers or the castle tower, just click on the picture to go to my Flickr account--there is a picture of each of those uploaded there. :)
Have a great Sunday!
This is a new bookmark that I was planning on listing on one of the venues that I sell on but, my daughter claimed it as hers before I was even finished with it. :)
I don't mind a bit, she loves to read and this is perfect for her. So, back to the shop.
Busy day today, I'm not sure if I will be online much at all until maybe late tonight. Hard to say. The computer is in a place where I have to walk past it no matter what...and you know...they are difficult to walk past without sitting down for a bit (hours, lol) first.
This pretty flower is made of a small gourd and a piece of driftwood that I found on the river. It is just about finished too and I couldn't wait to show it off.
This flower was sort of an experiment to see if I could try and mimic some art glass done by Dale Chihuly. His work is so spectacular and I love how he gets the colored glass to do what he wants it to. I will never be a glass blower, but I do enjoy admiring glass artist's creations.
For this piece, I wanted to try and get a totally different look for the inside of a gourd by using a variety of color instead of painting it one solid color such as black. It was a success! Once it is totally finished, you will be able to see many different views of it here.
Artful Markers, A wee bit of art for your books!
Recently, while going through a lot of things I have stored in my shop, I came across some wooden slats that are about 8 inches long. I couldn't remember what I had originally planned to do with them so I thought I'd revive an old idea and give it new life--Artful Markers! This one pictured is one of four that I have listed in my shop now.
I have some that are painted and some that are pyroengraved and painted (not listed yet). Some have dangles and others (like the one here) do not.
They have been really fun to make. They also get treated with several coats of water-based, gloss finish which not only brings out the vibrant colors, but makes them very durable.

Our yard sale has been moved to the end of this week. Weather made having a yard sale virtually impossible last weekend.
That's okay by me, gives me more time to get even more things together. :)
